New Sermon Series: The End Is Near
We pray that the time we spent in Mark’s Gospel was edifying and led you closer to Jesus – the Messiah, the Son of God. Dale concluded our series in Mark last Sunday, and he wants you to hear a vision for the series we will begin this Sunday:
Many of us have seen the street preacher’s sign: “The End Is Near!” Growing up, I encountered numerous predictions about the world’s end and Christ’s return, often finding them unsettling rather than comforting. Yet, the promise of Jesus’ return holds a grace-filled hope that can ease our fears, as we learned from Mark’s Gospel.
Last weekend, we studied Mark 16, where women with remarkable devotion arrive at the tomb of Jesus to experience astonishment, trembling, and fear. The angel’s words, “Do not be afraid,” alongside the reality of the risen Christ, offer a transformative perspective. Mark’s abrupt yet profound ending shows that fear doesn’t define us. Jesus’ resurrection defeated death – the root of human dread – inviting us to live with courage and trust in God’s presence.
As we move beyond the resurrection, we’re called to prepare for Christ’s second coming with hope and not anxiety. This preparation shapes our daily lives—at home, at work, and in the community—through a faith that confronts fear with God’s promises. The return of Jesus isn’t a distant event but a reality that inspires purposeful living. We cultivate this hope through prayer, scripture, and fellowship, anchoring ourselves in the truth of the resurrection.
Practically, this means embracing boldness in our relationships, choices, and witness. Like the women tasked with sharing the good news, we’re called to proclaim hope, even when fear lingers. The resurrection assures us that Jesus, who conquered the grave, walks with us. As we await His return, let us live as resurrection people—freed from fear’s hold, empowered by love, and steadfast in hope. By trusting in Christ’s victory, we face the future with confidence, knowing our Savior is coming again.
Church, we can't wait to worship and celebrate baptisms with you this Sunday! See you soon.
