She Does by Pastor Dale Beaver
Read Proverbs 31:10, 25-28; Psalm 93:1; and 2 Timothy 1:1-5.
  1. Pastor Dale connects the theme of Mother’s Day to the ongoing series "Do for One," noting that for many of us, a mother was the first to "do for one" and often still does. How have you seen the "nurturing aspect" of God’s love reflected through a mother figure, whether biological, adoptive, or a spiritual mentor?
  2. Read Proverbs 31:10. The word for "virtuous" or "capable" is the Hebrew word chayil (חַיִל), which speaks to moral worth and character. Pastor Dale describes this as an "interior compass" fashioned by the will of God. Why is a person's character more precious than "rubies" or external achievements?
  3. Read Proverbs 31:25a and Psalm 93:1. This woman is "clothed with strength (oz) and dignity". Pastor Dale clarifies that her strength is not equal to God’s, but is sourced in God’s strength, much like a king’s daughter is robed in the resources of her father. How does knowing you are "clothed" in God’s strength change the way you face your daily responsibilities?
  4. Read Proverbs 31:25b. To "laugh without fear of the future" does not mean being in denial or "faking fine". Rather, it is a rational, objective faith in the One who holds the future. What is a specific fear about the future that you need to surrender to the "One who holds you"?
  5. The Power of a Song. Pastor Dale reflects on hearing his mother and grandmother sing songs of hope that "reverberated from a heart that was grounded" through life’s disappointments. How can the authenticity of a lived-out faith provide more comfort to others than just "talking to hear ourselves talk"?
  6. Read Proverbs 31:26. This woman’s words have "weight" because her life has "roots". She speaks with authority and tenderness. In your own speech, do you find it harder to speak with authority (truth) or with tenderness (kindness)?
  7. Read 2 Timothy 1:1-5. Paul credits Timothy’s "genuine faith" to the influence of his grandmother Lois and mother Eunice. Pastor Dale notes that this isn't a footnote, but a "major thread" in Timothy’s life. Who are the people who lived an authentic faith in front of you, even if they weren't perfect?
  8. Success vs. Identity. Pastor Dale challenges young women to recognize that while the world offers many opportunities defined by "performance-based" success, nothing matters as much as knowing Jesus and becoming a voice of wisdom. How can you prioritize your character as a "daughter of the King" over the accolades of the world?
  9. Read Proverbs 31:27. A mother often has a "God-given radar" for trouble, carefully watching her household like an air traffic controller. How can you better prioritize the needs of those closest to you this week by "carefully watching" for ways to serve them?
  10. Read Proverbs 31:28. While a life of loving service can feel exhausting or overwhelmed, it is not a thankless job. Why is it "inexcusable" for us to be careless with our gratitude toward those who serve us so effortlessly?
  11. Close in Prayer: Thank God for the women of influence He has placed in your life. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you "neighbor" those in your circle with the same strength, dignity, and wise kindness modeled in this text.

Analogy for Understanding: Relying on the world's definition of success is like wearing a temporary costume that eventually fades and wears out; it only lasts as long as your last performance. However, a life rooted in Christ is like being clothed in a royal robe provided by the King; it offers a dignity and strength (oz) that isn't dependent on your own abilities, but on the resource of belonging to God’s family.
